summary of Vitamin B12





Vitamin B12:

This summary is about Vitamin B12. It is a nutrient that helps keep the body’s nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA. It prevent a type of anemia called megaloblastic anemia that makes people tired. Firstly, hydrochloric acid in the stomach separates vitamin B12 from the protein to which vitamin B12 is attached in food. After this, vitamin B12 combines with a protein made by the stomach called intrinsic factor and is absorbed by the body. Also, it effects on health like heart disease, dementia, energy and athletic performance.

Achievements and turning points

Bert Groves

Achievements:
  • he was engaged by the Aborigines Protection Board as handyman on Bulgandramine Aboriginal reserve.
  • He took an interest in the health and education of the children at Walhallow Aboriginal School and became president of the parents' and citizens' association.
  •  he opposed the establishment of a rocket-range in Central Australia.
  • he was appointed a justice of the peace.
  • Groves became first president of the Aboriginal-Australian Fellowship (formed in Sydney to bring together Aborigines and Whites).
  • he was a founding member of the Federal Council for Aboriginal Advancement.





Turning points:

  • Groves was apprenticed to a plumber, but found it difficult to obtain jobs. For a while he worked a horse scoop on the construction of the Dubbo to Werris Creek railway.
  • He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 14 April 1943 and served in Australia. After his discharge on 26 January 1945, he settled in Sydney.

Achievements:

Mandela was able to finish his degree and qualified as a Lawyer.
1952:
 Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa. The Transvaal Law Society tried to have it closed down, although this was blocked by the South African Supreme Court.
1944:
 Mandela helped found the ANC Youth League, whose Programme of Action was adopted by the ANC in 1949.
1952:
 Mandela was instrumental in pushing the ANC into more direct action such as the  Defiance Campaign and later acts of sabotage.

1994-1999:
Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa on and was President until June 1999. As president, Mandela presided over the transition from minority rule and apartheid.
 retiring from office:
Nelson Mandela has continued to be an international figure of great stature. He is one of the few politicians who has gone beyond a political role; he is widely admired and has received many prestigious awards. Nelson Mandela also associated with many educational programmes and initiatives such as Make Poverty History Campaign.
 1993:
 Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prizejointly with F.W. De Klerk

Turning Points:

at university Nelson Mandela became increasingly aware of the unjust nature of South African Society.

1960:
the Sharpeville massacre of 63 black South African’s changed the whole political climate.

1962:

Mandela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison.
